Pioneertown Motel Improvements
OVERVIEWThe historic Pioneertown Motel is planning an upgrade and expansion, to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the area. The new lodging and services will enhance the local economy and build on the community gathering center that has been a retreat for Hollywood stars and travelers alike.
In support of permitting for these facilities, Wilder Ecological performed baseline biological surveys and focused protocol surveys for desert tortoise and burrowing owl, and submitted reporting to the county of San Bernardino.

Rare plants and desert succulents
Migratory Bird Treaty Act nesting bird surveys
Habitat assessment and description, including soils, drainage, and general wildlife presence/absence
Protocol Surveys for agency listed species:
Western Joshua Tree Census and reporting
Burrowing owl protocol survey and reporting
Desert tortoise protocol survey and reporting
Results were presented in a final report to San Bernardino County, and included in the initial permitting application package. Mitigation measures were suggested and detailed in reporting, along with next steps for continued progress toward permitted construction.
