USGS, USFWS, Clark County (NV) Desert Tortoise Monitoring
OVERVIEWLong term research and monitoring of Mojave desert tortoises is funded through various government agencies, and occurs seasonally (spring and fall), with survey plots sampled on a rotating basis in conservation areas and protected habitat throughout the Mojave Desert. Tortoises are counted, measured, and assessed for health and body condition to generate range-wide estimates for demographics and population-level patterns in health and mortality.
