OVERVIEW:

Wilder Ecological was sub-contracted to effect a USFWS clearance for desert tortoise, western burrowing owl, and desert kit fox on a 667-acre photovoltaic project, and completed a successful translocation of 11 desert tortoises during a compressed fall season time line.

SERVICES INCLUDED:
  • Developing a Desert Tortoise Translocation Plan

  • Coordination with Agencies (CDFW and USFWS) on permitting

  • Clearance surveys for sensitive species

    • Mojave desert tortoise

    • Western burrowing owl

    • Desert kit fox

  • Passive relocation of kit fox and owls

  • USFWS protocol desert tortoise health assessments (including samples collection)

  • Successful translocation of 11 desert tortoises during a compressed fall season time line

  • Ongoing research and monitoring contract to track the translocated tortoises for a scheduled period of five years

  • Reporting for permit compliance
