OVERVIEW:

Wilder was contracted to staff an Authorized Biologist to complete biological surveys, monitoring, and mitigation for sensitive desert species during a Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) removal operation on a 3,000 acre multi-purpose firing range on the US Army Fort Irwin National Training Center.

SERVICES INCLUDED:

  • Environmental Awareness Training administered to all personnel (~80)

  • Surveys for desert tortoise

  • Surveys and mitigation for desert kit fox

  • Surveys and mitigation for burrowing owl

  • Several desert tortoises encountered: morphometrics, ID tag placement, general health assessed

  • Short-distance (<500 m) relocations of several tortoises to ensure safety during explosives work within the action area
